Kit You'll Need:
- Compressed Air Duster
- Vacuum Cleaner with attachment
- Microfibre Cloth
- T9 Torx Screwdriver (for the fan)
- Optional: Gentle Brush
Pre-Cleaning Natter: Right, first thing’s first – turn off your PS5 (make sure it’s not in rest mode, lads!) and unplug the lot – HDMI, power cable, USB-C, the works. Got the Disc Edition? Pop out any game you've got in there. And, just to be safe, back up your game saves to an external drive or the PS Plus cloud.
Step 1: Off With The Plates The side panels – the white bits – they pop off easier than a cap on a bottle of your favourite fizzy. Whip off the one with the PlayStation logo first. Face the console with the power button looking at you, get a grip on the bottom left of the panel and give it a gentle nudge up and to the right.
Now flip the console over and repeat on the other side. Bit of a heads up, it might need a tad more oomph than you reckon, but keep it gentle. No need to rough it up.
Step 2: Tackle The Dust Catchers With the panels off, it’s time to tackle the dust. Sony’s crafty design includes built-in dust catchers. Spot the triangular openings? That's where the muck hides. Vacuum the dust or tease it out with a brush or microfibre cloth. Don't let the dust bunnies win.
Step 3 (If You Fancy): Fan Finesse This bit’s optional and needs that T9. Sony's made the fan easy to get to – no warranty woes here. Pop off the small grating, unscrew the fan, and give it a once-over with your cloth and air duster. Swapping the fan? Careful with the connector cover – no hammers here, please.
Step 4: Give It Some Air With the side panels off, take your air duster and give the console a good blowover. Aim for any open slots and crannies. This bit’s quick, but it’ll keep your console from sounding like a jet engine down the line.
Step 5: Wipe Over After the dust has had its eviction notice, grab your microfibre cloth for a once-over. It’s a quick wipe down to nab any stragglers.
Step 6: Reassemble And Revel You’ve done the hard graft, now piece it back together. If you’ve had a go at the fan, make sure it’s snug back in its home. Snap the panels back on – they should fit like a glove.
